The Role of Signs in the Age of COVID-19

With all the changes being enacted because of COVID-19, the role of signs will undoubtedly become much more important as businesses and schools reopen and events (that were postponed) happen. It will take a while for things to go back to “normal”, but until then businesses and organizations will have to take responsibility for informing guests of the various safety precautions being implemented. The following list goes over some of the temporary sign solutions organizations and businesses can utilize to remind their customers to adhere to new guidelines in the age of COVID-19.

Since everyone is using their phones and looking down anyway, signs have moved to the floor in the form of floor decals. To promote social distancing, floor decals can be placed in high-traffic areas where guests might wait in line or gather in crowds. Just like any other sign, floor decals must be designed intentionally to ensure that people actually notice them. Selecting easy-to-read typefaces and highly contrasting foreground and background colors is the best way to get a guest’s attention.

Retractable Banners to Designate Important Areas

Retractable banners (usually used for trade show signs) are incredibly useful when you need to get and hold people’s attention. They come in various sizes, but most of them are about three feet wide and go from floor to eye level (or even higher depending on your specific needs). Retractable banners are best used indoors because the banners used in them do not allow for airflow. Retail locations need to clearly designate waiting areas or where a check-out line begins, and retractable banners are the perfect tools to get a guest’s attention.

Be Seen with Outdoor Mesh Banners and Flags

Being located near a busy road presents a challenge when you’re trying to get people to see that your business is open. Outdoor signage like mesh banners and flags are great ways to visually communicate to passing traffic. Whether you’re reopening soon or are trying to encourage customers to order take-out online, big and bold lettering is the way to go. Mesh banners work best when attached to fencing and outdoor flags – or feather flags – provide the most eye-catching “look” because they’re so tall and move elegantly in the wind.

5 star review  I went to another company to have a tailgate wrap installed and was not happy with it. I then called Connecting Signs and asked if they could help me. I sent them the original art work the other company did for me and not only did Connecting Signs redo it they improved the quality of my tailgate sign. I would highly recommend Connecting Signs

Vehicle Graphics for a Kia Soul

The graphics on this Kia Soul really stand out and get noticed! They’re bright and the message is to the point, and you just can’t miss it if you drive by it on the highway or in town. The custom printed graphics and colors are nothing like the factory paint job – in fact, can you imagine how difficult it would be to create this using paints?!

Any time you can start with a vehicle that already gets noticed because of its size and shape and enhance it with an effective design, you end up with a true marketing machine that literally drives your message home. The key components of an effective vehicle wrap design are showcased in this wrap for iPoint Technologies‘ Kia Soul, which can be seen driving all over Fort Collins and Northern Colorado. Those design components include:

1. A Simple Design

Sure, crazy abstract images will certainly get someone’s attention, but they might not help the viewer retain any messaging you are trying to convey. A complicated, confusing design will probably leave the viewer with an impression that they saw something, but won’t be able to remember specifics. Simple vehicle wrap designs will help with message retention and keeping continuity in the theme of the marketing campaign.

2. Limited Text

When it’s moving, the viewer only has a couple of seconds at most to take in the message, definitely more when stopped at lights or at a stop sign. In most cases, the viewer of the graphics won’t have time to read through a long list of your company’s important products or services. Save the detailed information for your website, and think of your vehicle wrap as a tool to drive potential clients to your website. A good practice is to pick out 2 or 3 key services that immediately inform the viewer what you offer, a tag-line or catchphrase that differentiates you from your competition is a great idea as well. Finish it off with your company name, logo, and web address. Any and all pictures and graphics should be complementary to your messaging.

3. Complementary Themes and Colors

The colors and themes of the wrap design need to be complementary with each other, and not clash. The potential client may notice the clashing colors more than your important products and services! It’s best to stay away from dozens of colors and limit them to just two with a possible accent color.

Fort Collins Commercial Vehicle Wraps

connecting signs van wrap

Vehicle wraps are a low cost, high impact advertisement displayed on your vehicle or fleet of vehicles. Unlike traditional forms of outdoor advertising, vehicle advertising goes to where the people are. A single commercial vehicle wrap can leave impressions at a parking garage, at a shopping mall, at a local restaurant, or on the highway.  Many studies have shown that one wrap generates 30,000 to 70,000 impressions daily. Our numbers here in Fort Collins may not be quite that high, but you definitely get the picture!

Advertising Vehicle Wraps Get Noticed

A recent poll shows that:

  • 90% of travelers notice graphics on wrapped vehicles.
  • 75% of consumers form impressions about a company based on the fleet graphics.
  • 30% of consumers base buying decisions on impressions they receive from company vehicles.

No doubt that numbers like these show we are a very visual society, driven by effective advertising and marketing. Vehicle wrap advertising caters to all levels of businesses and projects the message like no other form of advertising can.

Comparing the costs with more traditional forms of advertising, a display in the Yellow Pages can reach costs of $12,000 for just one year. With that approach, not only do you have to wait for someone to pick up the right directory where you are listed, you also have to share advertising space with competing businesses.  There’s really no comparison at all – a full vehicle wrap costs somewhere between $2,000 and $5,000 (a one-time fee), with partial wraps being a portion of that. Also, a high-quality vehicle wrap can last anywhere from 3 to 6 years.  At the same time, a quality wrap is completely removable.

Banners are great marketing tools!

Banners are a great way to quickly and effectively get your message seen

At Connecting Signs we pride ourselves in designing, building, and delivering exactly what you want, as quickly as you need. Just this past Friday at 2 pm our customer called in a panic and said “I need a 10’ x 40’ banner ASAP!!!” They needed it by noon the following Monday, and we were able to deliver a fully finished (hems and grommets) custom-print banner just in time. There is no other sign option I know of that can be done in that time frame and in that size.

Banners are both of great value and at the same time very versatile.  They are inexpensive and can be used both indoors and outdoors; they are also portable and can be placed in different spots very easily.

We start with a sturdy, resilient-vinyl and employ the latest technology digital printing equipment and techniques, combined with high-quality latex inks to produce your design. Our large format HP printer and inks also provide a very environment-friendly solution. We like being able to help reduce the use of harsh solvent inks and the resulting chemical out-gassing.

Aluminum tension frames to keep it tight

Banners get a bad rap for using ropes, bungee cords, duct tape, or whatever else to throw it up on a wall or between a couple of posts. They also have the reputation of not lasting very long. We recently did an installation of a 7’ x 28’ banner that is mounted in an aluminum frame which will keep the banner held tightly and securely on a south exposure outdoor installation.

Building Banners

It gives a permanent “look” to a simple vinyl banner and should give the owner years of effective advertising. We’ll have to wait to see exactly how long it lasts but have been told to expect at least 5-7 years. The great thing about this install is that the aluminum frame allows a quick change-out to a replacement banner or a brand new message! You just cannot get that level of versatility or value from a traditional hard-substrate sign.

At Connecting Signs, we live and breathe customer service. For banners, you have the option of submitting your own design, or you can have our professional design team create one at no extra charge. We will send you a full-color proof – FREE – for your approval. Once we get your approval, we generally print your banner within 24 to 48 hours. We also have no color limits or additional charges for full custom graphics. If you can dream it up, we can do it.

So whether you are in a crunch and need to get your business advertised QUICKLY, or you need something for your school, sports team, or even a wedding – give us a call at (970) 493-0133 or request a quote here. We will Get-R-Done!
